Maru Karate Kai is headed by Marc Grayston-hanshi and has classes in the Basildon area of Essex. He has been teaching for sixteen years and training in karate for twenty-eight. 

Classes are held in Basildon on a Monday at Fairhouse Primary School at 7pm-8pm, on a Thursday at Basildon Upper Academy School at 7pm-8pm, on a Friday at Fairhouse Primary School at 7pm-8pm and on a Saturday morning at Luncies Road Meeting Hall at 10am-11am. 

The club is grant funded by the BBC Children in Need, Jack Petchey Foundation, Heart of Pitsea, Basildon Council, ActiveEssex, Co-Operative Bank, Sportivate, Ford Britain Trust and the Big Lottery Fund. 

Maru Karate Kai is governed by the UK governing body for Shindo-Ryu Karate-Do. Zen Eikoku Shindo-Ryu Karate-Do Renmei and all students are members of Kodo Butoku Renmei, which is a worldwide martial arts organisation.
